  • What is web hosting?
Web hosting is the technology that stores and serves out your web pages, images and other content so that other people can view and interact with them. You will need to keep your web hosting package active for as long as you wish your website to remain live.
  • What are the different kinds of hosting?
The most common is shared hosting, where several sites occupy the same server and the cost is therefore spread. Other types include VPS (virtual private server) which gives you more control to install your own operating system and software, or a dedicated server where you rent or buy an entire server for your own use.
  • Which should I choose?
The majority of sites run on shared hosting accounts, unless they have specific requirements warranting a VPS or are likely to use significant resources requiring a dedicated server. Within shared hosting there are a variety of different service levels, from low-budget providers who pack thousands of sites onto each server (impacting speed and performance) to higher end providers who carefully manage the available resources. It is also important to consider security and backups.
  • What is cPanel?
cPanel is a piece of software that allows you to manage all aspects of your web hosting account via an easy to use control panel. You can create and edit email accounts, add FTP users, setup databases, take backups and much more.
